(click on thumbnail to enlarge) Specializing in CNC machining of plastic components, Severna was well equipped to fulfill an order to make Ultem® beads for a connector application. Using Ultem® 1000, we manufactured the beads on our Star CNC Swiss Machining Center with a three-step process: drilling six holes on the bolt pattern; drilling a center hole; and trepanning both sides. The finished part had a diameter ranging from .100" down to .070" and a thickness of .030". Severna was able to maintain machining tolerances of ±.0005" throughout the manufacturing process. Burrs were removed by hand and with cryogenic methods. A large inventory and the ability to run lights out, 24 hours a day, enabled Severna to complete and deliver this order on time.
